Graduate Ceremonies - Instructions for the Candidates, Faculty, and Staff Processional
May 11, 2019 - Masters Ceremony
All Masters candidates will gather in the Fieldhouse for procession into Gampel Pavilion.
All Masters candidates participating in the student processional will need to gather in the Fieldhouse by 12:15pm. Students will form two lines in the Fieldhouse and each will make their way into Gampel Pavilion. Students will be seperated by degree program. Please plan to arrive by 12:15pm! This is extremely important!

Any Masters candidates who utilize wheelchairs, crutches, or walkers should enter Gampel using the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium lobby (near the Husky dog sculpture). A staff person will be located there and will show you to the elevator.

Are you interested in attending the Masters Ceremony and participating in the Faculty/Staff Processional? If so, please RSVP to your respective Dean’s Office by Monday, May 6, 2019 so that we have an accurate count of those who plan to participate.
You will need regalia to participate. If you do not own your own, please use the link below to rent regalia.
All faculty and staff participating in the processional will assemble in the lower level of Gampel Pavilion. Please plan to arrive to the designated location in Gampel at 12:45pm and arrive with your regalia already on. There is no secure location in Gampel to store any personal belongings (bags, purses, etc.) so please do not bring them with you.
Please enter through the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium lobby (near the Husky dog sculpture) and descend the stairs to your left. At the bottom of the stairs, you will gather to the RIGHT. The first person to arrive will start the first line immediately to the right of the bottom of the stairs (facing the stairs). The second person to arrive will be the first person in the second line (on the other side of the same hallway - still keeping to the right of the stairs you descended). Subsequent arrivals will line-up behind these faculty members. Please remember to form two lines. The two lines of the Faculty processional will join right up with the tail end of the Student processional lines and make their way onto the floor of Gampel.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Faculty/Staff seating section will NOT recess. Once the Platform Party has recessed, you are free to leave your seat and make your way out of Gampel Pavilion.

May 13, 2019 - Doctoral Ceremony
All Doctoral candidates will gather in the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theater (the "little theater") for procession into Jorgensen Auditorium.
All Doctoral candidates participating in the candidate processional will need to gather in the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theater by 5:15pm. Candidates must enter the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theater (the "little theater") with their Faculty Advisor. Candidates (and their advisors) will be seperated by degree program.

Student Processional Begins at 5:15pm
Ceremony Begins at 6:00pm
Any Doctoral candidates who utilize wheelchairs, crutches, or walkers should enter Jorgensen using the main entrance off of Hillside Road. A staff person will be located there and will show you to the elevator.
Faculty and Staff - Doctoral Ceremony

You will need regalia to participate. If you do not own it, please use the form below to rent regalia.
There is no secure location in Jorgensen to store any personal belongings (bags, purses, etc.) so please do not bring them with you.
All Doctoral candidates and faculty members need to enter Jorgensen via the rear entrance (from Jorgensen Road). Please do not use the main entry to Jorgensen (from Hillside Road) unless you need to utilize the building's elevator.
Please meet up with your candidate before entering Jorgensen. If the weather is nice, you may wish to meet up with them directly outside of the back entrance of Jorgensen. Otherwise, a pre-determined meeting space outside of Jorgensen will work (ex. SU Marketplace, outside of Gentry, etc.). Once inside the building, please immediately proceed to the Harriet S. Jorgensen Theater (the "little theater") in the lower level of Jorgensen. This is where we will line-up for the candidate processional. Staff will be there to assist you. Please make sure that you and your candidate are in the lower level of Jorgensen by 5:15pm at the absolute latest.
All faculty members who are NOT hooding a candidate during the ceremony will proceed to the lower lobby in Jorgensen (outside of the Jorgensen Gallery) to line-up for the faculty processional. Once the candidate processional finishes walking through the lower lobby, the line of the faculty processional will join right up with the tail of the candidate processional.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Faculty/Staff seating section will recess directly behind the Platform Party.
All Doctoral candidates will be hooded during the ceremony.
Undergraduate Ceremonies - Instructions for the Faculty & Staff Processional

I. Mortarboards are worn during the processional and recessional. Men remove mortarboards for the singing of the national anthem.
II. Tassels are placed to the left.
III. Hoods are worn as follows:
• Place hood over head with velvet and colors facing outward.
• Button front cord to blouse or shirt
• Fasten cord across back to keep hood secure.
• Pull colors of hood lining outward from inside center so that they project to the outside and are more prominent.

Rental orders placed online must be completed by Sunday, April 7, 2019. After that date, the rental form (link above) must be filled out and returned to the Storrs Campus UConn Bookstore in-person.
